Award Criteria
The Dorman Award for Multicultural Leadership is an acknowledgment bestowed upon an individual who actively promotes, contributes to and enhances an inclusive environment in Pennsylvania. This annual award will be granted to an outstanding advocate for multicultural education, equity, and advocacy at the interpersonal, group and institutional level. Eligible applicants can be a K-12 teacher, college faculty member, higher education administrator, community activist, or educational consultant.
The award recipient demonstrates an exceptional understanding of multicultural education and inclusiveness beyond the call of duty as represented by the following criteria:
Enhances inclusion through positive communication between persons of different backgrounds, including such categories as age, socio-economic status, race, gender, sex, sexual orientation, and language.
Uses innovative methods for increasing and valuing diversity through wide-ranging activities
Demonstrates outstanding efforts to promote an environment free from bias and discrimination
Organizes, creates and facilitates various academic or community events promoting diversity, respect, and inclusiveness
Shows a commitment to the advancement of multicultural education within a specific community in and/or across the state of Pennsylvania through research, teaching, service and collaborative partnerships
Award
The Dr. Tchet Dereic Dorman Award for Multicultural Leadership will be presented at PA-NAME’s annual spring conference. The upcoming conference will be held at Commonwealth University (Lock Haven Campus) in Lock Haven, PA on April 10-11, 2026. Registration, transportation, and one night’s lodging will be covered for the award recipient.
The deadline to submit materials for the Dr. Tchet Dereic Dorman Award for Multicultural Leadership is February 28, 2026.
Eligibility
The candidate must have participated in one of the last five PA-NAME conferences.
Application Materials
To apply, please submit the following:
1) a single letter of nomination
2) an additional letter of support
3) the candidate’s resumé or curriculum vitae; and
4) (optional) any additional evidence and/or artifacts that highlight the candidate’s multicultural
leadership such as website, video, news feature, curriculum, publication (book, article, etc.).
